Boarding/Retire a Horse

Chasing the Sun specializes in senior care and rehabilitation. We are actively involved in horse rescue and take pride in utilizing that knowledge to the benefit of our residents. Every effort is made to provide a quality comfortable retirement; We care for our senior residents as our own horses.

Our desire is to maintain a tranquil setting we only accept horses that meet the following criteria:

Have a current negative Coggins test.
Have proof of current vaccinations.
Have only front shoes or those that are barefoot.
Residents cannot have any dangerous vices, ex. biting, kicking, etc. Cribbers will be accepted if their behavior is controllable with a cribbing collar.

Full Care Package

$350/month - Seasonal turnout schedule (during the day in winter and during the night in summer)

10x12 stall with ample pine pellets
Daily stall cleaning
Ceiling fans in barn
Feed (fed twice daily)
Dispersal of RX/supplements (provided by owner)
Quality hay
Salt blocks
Fresh clean water always available (heated in the winter)
Bi-monthly worming - (includes wormer and administration)
Daily treats and TLC
Basic grooming (as needed)
Hosed off during hot weather (as needed)
Scheduling / handling for Farrier / Vet Care - (services billed separately to owner)
Application of fly spray during the summer (provided by owner)
Putting on and removing blankets (provided by owner)
Putting on and removing fly mask (provided by owner)

Layup Care

Basic all inclusive lay-up care averages $125/ week or $500/month based on individuals needs. Our goal is to provide our owners a worry-free environment for their injured or recovering horse that may need to be stalled 24/7 and/or needs extra attention.

Short or long term lay-ups are quoted based on individual's needs but may include:

Large stalls cleaned daily (or twice daily if horse is not being turned out)
High quality hay and grain (fed twice daily)
Owner provided medications given as prescribed
Wrapping, cold hosing, hand walking, etc. done as prescribed
Detailed chart kept on horse
Horses are held for the Vet and Farrier

Pasture Care

$110 Summer months.

$125 For Broodmares

Grooming		$10 per session
Clipping		$25 per session
Full Body Clip		Price determined on a case by case basis
Hold for Farrier/Vet		$10 per session (service provider fees not included)
Hand Walking		$10 per 10 min session ($1/min after - min charge $10)
Lunging		$25 per 30 min session (min charge $25)
Bathing		$25 per bath (Orvis)
Mane Pulling		$25
Leg Wrapping		$5/leg
Hoof Wrapping		$5/hoof
Treatment of injuries		$20 per session (service provider fees not included - minor cuts or scrapes treated at no extra charge)
